Structured Maths

ŌHAU School uses PR1ME™ as the core teaching and learning programme for mathematics. Since 2022 we have explicitly taught mathematical concepts using the PR1ME™ resources and will continue with this programme as we implement the refreshed Mathematics and Statistics Curriculum. PR1ME™ builds a solid foundation by developing deep conceptual understanding with a strong focus on problem-solving. PR1ME™ Mathematics is a structured maths programme designed by Scholastic International which combines the world’s best practice pedagogy from top performing maths nations: Singapore, Hong Kong, and South Korea. It is grounded in the science of learning. 

The structure of PR1ME™ Mathematics  is clearly sequenced so that new concepts are regularly revisited, reinforced, and built upon to enable ākonga to confidently move to the next step of complexity in the skill being learned. Kaiako are able to constantly monitor mathematical reasoning and understanding. Feedback on whether concepts have been mastered can be given in a timely manner while misconceptions or errors can be addressed.

PR1ME™ Mathematics includes a variety of resources for both teachers and learners including hands-on materials. Each child has their own workbook at their year level which allows them to practise the concepts they have been taught. Our youngest learners have a class set of ‘Big Books’ which are mathematical stories teachers use to prompt discussions and introduce new learning. From Year 1 students will have access to the PR1ME™ MATH PRO Student Hub of online resources and interactive tools to review and practise their learning.
